Work Permits

Foreigners who enter Malaysia to take up employment must obtain a valid Employment Pass before the employment begins. All Employment Pass will be issued by Ministry of Home Affairs and managed by Immigration Department (www.imi.gov.my).

Empolyment Pass (DP10)

In normal circumstances, the Work Permit (DP10) will be issued for a minimum period of one (1) year. There’re some requirements must be complied before the permit can be issued.

Effective from 15 April 2014, all Work Permit (DP10) application must perform through online system – Expatriate Services Division (ESD) System (https://esd.imi.gov.my).

Work Permit will be issued after the applicant has obtained the approval from relevant authorised agencies.

MIDA Expatriate Post (EP)

Manufacturers whom pull their investment into Malaysia may apply for the Expatriate Posts (EP) from MIDA.

There are two (2) types of Expatriate Post, which is ❶ Key Post and ❷ Term Post. Key Posts are high level managerial posts in foreign-owned private companies operating in Malaysia. Key posts are posts essential for companies to safeguard their interest and investments. The expatriates are responsible in determining the company’s policies in achieving its goal and objectives.

Term Posts are intermediate level of managerial and professional posts. The post requires professional qualifications, practical experience, skills and expertise related to the respective jobs. The expatriate are responsible in implementing the company’s policies and supervision of staff.

Key Post approved by MIDA will last forever as long as the company keeps operation in Malaysia. The permit will be renewable every five (5) years and replaceable by other candidates. Term Post will only have the maximum duration of five (5) years and must be replaced by Malaysian after the period. Anyway, the term post visa holder may apply for DP10 after the period.
